Seventeen Years of Love

Dear Buddy,

There are no words that can fully express the little shining light you have been in my life. All 12 pounds of you, all 17 years of companionship. That look in your eyes when I would go out into the world, the loving kisses every time I would come back.

I will miss the pitter-patter of your little paws on the floor, and your little nub tail that would wind up whenever you were happy — and you were happy a lot! I will miss the way we would breathe together, one of us would sigh, and the other would soon follow, our energy falling in sync. Thank you for being a protector of the qi field — always nearby when I would practice, yet giving me space to be with myself.

I will never forget how you could sense what I was feeling and be there for me. On the hard days, you sat closer, resting your little head on my foot or curling up against me just enough to remind me that I was not alone. On the good days, you reminded me how to celebrate simply — a sunny patch on the floor, a walk through the neighborhood, a soft blanket, and some quiet time together.

You taught me so much, Buddy. About presence. About joy. About forgiveness and love that asks for nothing in return. You were my teacher just as much as my companion, showing me the value of slowing down, paying attention, savoring life in its smallest moments.

Even as your body grew older and slower, your spirit never dimmed. You faced everything with grace — every new ache, every cloudy day — still wagging, still looking at me with those wise, kind eyes. I hope you felt the same comfort and love from me as I felt from you every day.

Thank you, Buddy, for every morning you greeted me, for every night you lay beside me. For filling these years with warmth, laughter, and that quiet, unconditional love only a dog can give. You made my life better in ways I’ll spend the rest of my days discovering.

You can rest now, little one. Run free. Your job here is done, but your imprint on my heart will never fade.

Until we meet again.

Love always,

Reyna
