Find Your Balance, Activate Your Qi, Nourish Your Body, Mind, and Soul

La Qi is a fundamental practice in Zhineng Qigong that awakens and refines our ability to feel Qi—the life force energy that flows within and around us. Developed by Dr. Pang Ming, La Qi offers a simple yet profound way to cultivate, gather, and direct Qi for healing, balance, and transformation.
Through gentle movements and focused intention, La Qi strengthens our connection to Qi, allowing us to feel its presence as warmth, tingling, resistance, or expansion between our hands. Whether you are new to energy work or deepening your existing practice, this method makes Qi tangible and accessible in everyday life.
What is La Qi?

La Qi is rooted in the principle of Qi exchange—drawing in fresh, nourishing energy from the universe and releasing what no longer serves us. This cycle of opening and closing the hands is more than a physical motion; it is a direct communication with Qi.
✋ Notice This: As you move your hands apart, notice a subtle expansion, as if your hands are floating. As you bring them closer together, feel the resistance, like pressing against a magnetic field. This is Qi!
Your ability to feel Qi strengthens with practice. The clearer your intention, the more vivid the sensation becomes.
The Science of Gathering & Delivering Qi

Qi moves where the mind focuses. In La Qi, your hands create a bridge for Qi to flow, gathering energy on the open and condensing it on the close. The space between your hands becomes a living field of energy, rich with sensation.
✋ Notice This: Is the Qi between your hands warm? Tingly? Magnetic? These sensations indicate that you are successfully gathering Qi!
How to Do the Practice

- Move your hands in front of your navel, palms facing each other but not touching.
- Open and close your hands using the elbows as the pivot point.
- Keep the movement small and gentle—only about 10 cm (4 inches).
- Relax—Qi flows best when the body and mind are soft.
✋ Notice This: As your hands come closer, does the sensation between them change? Can you feel the energy compressing into a denser Qi field? Stay curious!
La Qi Meditation

In this meditative state, the movement of your hands becomes a gateway to deep Qi awareness:
🔹 Opening – As your hands move apart, imagine your energy body expanding outward into infinite space.
🔹 Closing – As your hands move closer, sense the Qi condensing into a luminous ball of energy between your palms.
✋ Notice This: With each cycle, feel the Qi ball becoming more alive, dense, and responsive. How does the energy shift as you continue?
Feel That Qi!

Now let’s go deeper into direct Qi sensation.
- Keep one hand open, palm facing up.
- With the other hand, form the sword mudra (index and middle fingers extended, thumb holding the ring and little fingers).
- Point the sword mudra at your open palm and begin circling it slowly.
✋ Notice This: As you circle, what do you feel in your open palm? Heat? A pulsing sensation? A push-pull effect? This is your direct experience of Hunyuan Qi!
For beginners, focusing between the hands is a great starting point. Over time, your whole body will participate in the process, amplifying the Qi field beyond just the hands.
La Qi Meditation (Advanced)

As your practice deepens, La Qi moves beyond the hands—it engages your entire being.
🔹 Opening – Release old, stagnant Qi from the body, allowing it to be transformed by nature.
🔹 Closing – Absorb fresh, vibrant Qi into every cell.
✋ Notice This: With each opening, let go of tension, stress, or heavy emotions. With each closing, fill yourself with pure, nourishing Qi. Notice how your body and mind respond.
Chanting “Kai He” (Open-Close) can deepen your connection to the rhythm of Qi. Let the vibration guide the flow.
